• How to Clean Coffee Spills

    Walking around the house half asleep, holding a cup of coffee filled to the brim, is just asking for trouble.  So if you like to start off every morning with a hot cup of coffee, spills are only a matter of time.  It doesn’t take long for stains to set in, so when spills happen it’s crucial to know what to use and what to do.  Continue reading to learn how various materials and surfaces should be cleaned, that way next time you have an accident you’ll be able to spring into action and avoid permanent damage.

    Fabric

    1. Sponge the stain with cool water or let it soak in cool water for about 30 minutes.
    2. Pretreat the area with a prewash stain remover.
    3. Put the fabric in the wash, adding chlorine bleach if it’s safe for the fabric.

    Upholstery

    1. Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwasher detergent with two cups of cool water.
    2. Using a clean cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent and water.
    3. Blot until the liquid is absorbed.
    4. Repeat until the stain is gone.
    5. Sponge with cold water and blot dry.

    Carpet

    1. Blot up as much of the coffee as possible.
    2. Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwasher detergent and one teaspoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water.
    3. Using a clean cloth, sponge the stain with the solution.
    4. Apply a little bit at a time, blotting frequently with another dry cloth.
    5. Continue until the stain is gone.
    6. Sponge with cold water and blot dry.
